It is a brand new year and with it comes brand new SOE Employees to meet. We want you to get to know folks in Finance, Human Resources, Development, Legal, Quality Assurance, Office Operations, Customer Service, Administrative Assistants, and Marketing, just to name a few. We have people from all walks of life here at SOE.

Each month The Community Team will highlight one of SOE’s many diverse employees in a monthly feature titled, “SOE Employee Spotlight.” Each month our spotlighted employee will also appear in some fashion on the Official SOE Podcast. Our first spotlight for 2012 you will meet Andrew Huse, a member of the Audio Visual Department. Take a moment to find out about what a typical day in the office is like for him, what his favorite SOE game is, and other fun tidbits. As a special bonus, we included a screenshot from his favorite SOE game for you to download!

Tell us about yourself! What’s your name and what do you do here at SOE? How long have you been working at SOE?

My name is Andrew Huse. I am an associate audio visual producer here at SOE and I basically help produce, film, and edit the visual media and advertising for our games. I have been working here since August 2011.

How did you get into the industry?

That is such a good question! I have always been interested in photography and film making since high school. I was a student photographer for the Daily Aztec while I attended San Diego State University, and after college I worked for the San Diego Union-Tribune as a photographer and video editor. In July 2011 The Union-Tribune was running a series of stories on Comic Con, and one of those articles would be about CEO John Smedley. I wasn’t originally assigned to that particular story, but when the other photographer wasn’t available to shoot they had me head up to the SOE headquarters and capture video of the interview. After the interview I stayed and chatted with the other AV guys and found out they were hiring. A couple weeks later I was in for an interview and got the job.

Tell us what a typical workday is like for you.

Usually what we do is play a game title and capture footage from the game for use in commercials and media promotion. Every game is different, but knowing the special codes for each game helps us get the shot we want. Sometimes we have to do a particular shot 7 or 8 times until we get it right. We also log in 5 accounts so we can have characters in the game doing an action, or walking down a path all at once – that usually involves having to press multiple keyboards all at once. It can get a little challenging.

Let’s talk favorites… What is your favorite SOE game title? What is your favorite location, favorite thing about that game? Do you have a favorite memory or moment from that particular game?

Since coming to SOE, I have been playing a TON of EverQuest. I can’t believe how large the game is, and one of my favorite things to do is just explore and walk around. I usually end up getting mixed up with some questionable NPCs and dying pretty quickly though.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?

I would have to say Gordon Freeman. I’m a shy and quiet person, but it seems Gordon pulls it off.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

This is going to sound bizarre, and I’ve never told this to anyone, but I’ve always dreamed about having the ability to copy and paste any real world object I see. So like if I saw a Lamborghini at a car show I could just copy it there in my head, then paste it into my garage when I got home. The possibilities are endless.

Vampires or Zombies and why?

Vampires are too tricky and deceitful. With zombies all you got to do is bash them over the head and be done with em.

Let’s get real! Hobbies? What’s last book you read? Last movie you saw? What do you do to unwind after a busy day?

I play the piano and violin, and I love music in general. I last read the Steve Job’s biography. I am a huge David Fincher fan, and ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ was awesome. After a busy day I like playing Team Fortress 2, or hitting the gym for a bit.
