It’s that time of the month again; time to meet The SOE Gamer of the Month!*The SOE Community Team would like to introduce the October SOE Gamer for 2011,*Darth Ryu in Star Wars®: Clone Wars Adventures. Get to know him better. Sometime in the near future you may hear questions answered that he submitted in an SOE Podcast.

Question: Where in the real life world do you live (city and state)?
Answer:*Waterbury, CT
Question: What SOE game(s) do you play?
Answer:*Clone Wars Adventures and a bit of Free Realms
Question: How long have you played the above game(s)?
Answer:*Since around September or October 2010.
Question: What other games do you play?
Answer:*The games I play mostly are WWE All-Stars, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Wii Sports, and Legend of Zelda.
Question: Why would you like to be the SOE Gamer of the Month?
Answer:*Because I think I can do it. When you look at the other gamers of the month and well-known forum users on CWA, you see all these people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, etc. I’m only 14. And I’ve made a mark in the CWA. I’m well known and popular. I was able to get past my age and actually go to levels where some adult CWA users didn’t.
Question: What do you do for a living?
Answer:*I’m a high school student.
Question: How many hours a week do you play video games
Answer:*It varies. During the summer and weekend, usually around 10 hours, but on school days, only 3 to 6.
Question: Tell us about your character(s).
Answer:*Darth Ryu is an awesome Sith Lord. He was a warrior born on an unknown planet and was taken to be a Sith, only to be taken by the Jedi and worked as a spy with training in the Dark Side, but eventually decided to make his own destiny and betrayed the entire Jedi Order. He is the Leader of the Clone Wars Adventures branch of a guild/squad known as the Council of Darkness, which is a guild really ran by Darth Krat, who found the ways of eternal life, escaped the wrath of Darth Bane and escaped to the future, where Ryu helped him recruit Sith to finally destroy the Jedi. He is pretty well known around the CWA universe.
Question: How did you get into gaming?
Answer:*My cousins really introduced me to gaming when I was in Kindergarten and I used to play on their PlayStation and Xbox and Gameboy. I would always like to watch them play games like Halo, Quake, Munch’s Oddysey, and Super Mario Sunshine. I really was raised in a video-game environment. I got my first console, the PS2, on my 8th birthday, then got a DS on my 12th birthday, a Wii on Christmas, then an Xbox 360 on a later Christmas, and a 3DS on my 14th birthday. So, really, I’ve liked gaming for 9 years (I haven’t lived a long time, but I’m a true gamer).
Question: What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other than playing video games?
Answer:*I like to swim. When I’m not gaming, I’m either doing homework, eating dinner, at school, or swimming in my own pool or the pool at the YMCA. I am also a big fan of Star Wars. I saw Episode I when I was 9 or 10 and loved it ever since. Heck, I loved it when I was born. I’d always make my mom read an Episode IV book every night.
Question: What do you like the most about your favorite SOE game?
Answer:*It’s a great place to meet new people. I was the only Star Wars geek in my school and this game let me feel that I’m not the only one out there; there are countless others and I can connect with them through a game. Media is the strongest source of communication. If I could change one thing about the game, I’d make it feel like you are a Jedi or Sith or clone. I want to jump over buildings and slice through countless droids with one swing and a magical push with no damage done to me. Roleplay is a good source to do this, but it’s doesn’t embrace you enough.
Question: What’s the first thing you do when you log into your game? Do you have a routine?
Answer:*I usually play my Daily Games and chat with friends first. Then, the day just goes on. Sometimes, I train with my countless apprentices, or help a friend with an issue in roleplay, or throw a party, or just have a mini-game day. It really depends on who’s on, what’s going on, etc.
Question: Let’s talk favorites… What is your favorite item? (Is there one you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons?), What is your favorite zone? What is your favorite NPC? Do you have a favorite in-game memory?
Answer
Item:My Embo hat. I used to wear it a lot, then I switched to the classic Darth Ryu.
Zone: Not many zones. But the Jedi Temple’s Lightsaber Construction Room is a great place to meet with friends and collect credit orbs. No one goes there. I wonder why.
NPC: Commander Cards. He wears Black ARC Trooper armor. ‘Nuff said.
In-game memory: When I came back. You see, I took an abscence from CWA for 4 months for multiple reasons. Everyone didn’t like it when I left. I mean, I was an active forum user, a party thrower, and just awesome in general. Then, a friend of mine from CWA asked me to come back. By then, I was bored. I wanted something to do. I tried at least 3 new MMOs, but I missed the CWA. So I came back and got welcomed. Almost every forum user posted on my “Welcome Back” post and some of my non-forum users friends threw a party for me in-game. I even found out the forum users made a list of former CWA players and I was remembered and respected the most. Although it wasn’t exactly just in-game, it was all that that was able to really bring me back.
Question: What is the most in-game currency you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters?
Answer:*The most expensive item on CWA is probably the Commander Barrage armor. 1 million Republic Credits. I was able to work hard, played lots of games, collected a lot of credit orbs…and finally got it…but I never wore it. It’s just that thing where you feel like you need to buy something.
Question: If you could have a superpower or a spell/ability from the game you play, what would it be?
Answer:*I want to use the Force. I want to lift things with my mind, be able to defeat enemies with this magical force…you watch the movies and you want to do that. I mean, what person doesn’t want to do something Anakin or Darth Vader can do?
Question: If there was one thing you could tell the SOE community about yourself, what would it be?
Answer:*I am an underdog that made a mark. I never was good at building or playing minigames, but I was still able to make a mark.
