It’s time to highlight another diverse employee here at SOE! You’ve met the Community Team on the forums and at Fan Faire. But what about our fine folks in Finance, Human Resources, Development, Legal, Quality Assurance, Office Operations, Public Relations, Administrative Assistants, and Marketing, just to name a few. We have people from all walks of life here at SOE.

The Community Team would like to introduce you to those people in a monthly feature titled, “SOE Employee Spotlight.” Each month our spotlighted employee will also appear in some fashion on the Official SOE Podcast. This month you will meet Pam Impson, an Executive Assistant. Take a moment to find out about what a typical day in the office is like for her, what her favorite SOE game is, and other fun tidbits. As a special bonus, we learned where her favorite location in-game is and included a screenshot for you to download!

Question: Tell us about yourself!* What’s your name and what do you do here at SOE? How long have you been working at SOE?

Answer: My name is Pam Impson and I work at SOE as an Executive Assistant. My date of hire was June 24, 2002, so my 9-year anniversary is just around the corner.

Question: How did you get into the industry?

Answer: I was originally assigned to work at SOE as a temp. Before coming here I knew absolutely nothing about the industry or about online gaming. When I was first told that I’d be assigned to work at a gaming company, I thought it had something to do with gambling. I looked online to see what SOE was about and was even more confused. The only game I had ever played on a PC was Bejeweled and I had no idea what MMO’s or RPG’s were. Fortunately, I have always been a bit of a nerd and the job turned out to be a good fit. What a difference 9 years makes!

Question: Tell us what a typical workday is like for you.

Answer: I am responsible for supporting some of the top executives in the company and each day is different depending on what is happening. Much of my time is spent coordinating travel arrangements, scheduling (and rescheduling) meetings, ordering materials and supplies, and processing administrative paperwork. My priorities depend on what the executives and San Diego game teams need at any given time and my challenge is to try to stay a step or two ahead. My approach to work is sort of an “organized chaos” style. I am not a neat worker, but I know exactly where things are and have my own systems for staying organized. Flexibility and adaptability are both important in my work. The particular duties are usually not routine from one day to the next and I like having the ability to create my own solutions to the different situations that arise.

Question: Let’s talk favorites… What is your favorite SOE game title? What is your favorite location, favorite thing about that game? Do you have a favorite memory or moment from that particular game?

Answer:*Free Realms is my favorite SOE game and Seaside is my favorite location.

Question: If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?

Answer: Frodo. He has a true heart and an adventurous spirit.

Question: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Answer: The ability to fly so my commute to work would be faster and more awesome.

Question: Let’s get real! Hobbies? What’s last book you read? Last movie you saw? What do you do to unwind after a busy day?

Answer: The last really good book I read was The Passage by Justin Cronyn. My favorite genre is horror, the scarier the better. I’m currently reading A Game of Thrones, the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. I get home fairly late from work, so I usually just relax with a little TV watching or by chatting with friends and family. If nothing scary is on TV I like to watch cooking and travel shows, movies, Animal Planet and Nat Geo specials, comedy, or guilty pleasure shows like Real Housewives. Oh, I also enjoy bad Sci Fi quite a bit. Weekends are usually for doing fun things with my little 3 year-old granddaughter, who is the light of my life.
