Sony Online Entertainment is full of many diverse employees. Our company isn’t just made up of the folks you meet on the forums or see at Fan Faire. We have a Finance Department, a Human Resources department, Legal, Office Operations, Administrative Assistants, people from all walks of life!
The Community team would like to introduce you to those people in a monthly feature titled, “SOE Employee Spotlight.” This month you will meet James, Ronnie and Jason from Customer Service. Take a moment to find out about what a typical day in the office is like for them, what their favorite SOE game is, and other fun tidbits. As a special bonus, we learned where their favorite locations in-game is and created wallpapers for you to download!
What is your real name or an alias you’d rather use?
[James]: James L, AKA GM Kotos http://www.station.sony.com/images/community/employee_spotlights/sept2010/james.JPG
[Ronnie]: My name is Ronnie, but if I could have an alias it would be Velossaraptobiscuit.
[Jason]: Jason Lee What is your official title/position?
[James]: Game Master
[Ronnie]: *My official title is Game Master Shuuyo of Vanguard Saga of Heroes.
[Jason]: Game Master for Vanguard: Saga of Heros How long have you been working at SOE?
[James]: 24 months
[Ronnie]: *I have been working here about a year and a half.
[Jason]: Since September 2009 Tell us what a typical workday is like for you.
[James]: Clock in, check email.* Pull a petition, and check the Vanguard forums for any new and exciting things that came up.* If things slow down, start working on stuff to help my understanding of some of the trickier quest lines in Vanguard.* Every now and then I’ll answer questions here and there on a server (hi crafters!).
[Ronnie]: Typical workday is lot of customer service, music, and self-entertainment.
[Jason]: * Help a lot of customers, drink a little coffee, help more customers. What is your favorite SOE game title?
[James]: I’m torn between Vanguard and Everquest 2.* Everquest 2 for the nostalgia factor, and Iksar, Vanguard because it’s Vanguard.* If I could be an Iksar in Vanguard, my favorite would be Vanguard without contest.
[Ronnie]: Favorite SOE title so far has been Vanguard since I am most familiar with it.
[Jason]: Vanguard Inside that title, what is your favorite location?
[James]: There’s a lot of really neat locations in Vanguard.* The ability to explore is really one of the strong points of the game.* After 18 months as a GM, and the ability to go places, I’m still discovering new sites and locations to see.* The one place that I keep checking out though, is probably Dazar, the Cavern of Reflection in Tar Janashir*(-12 -11 2722 27386 -1169).* Once you get past the Dazar separatists, you find a cavern that’s filled with otherworldly crystals and creatures, nightmares and dreams made manifest.* *Wandering around, you see plants, trees, and glowing particles that give you the feeling of being in a fantastic drea
[Ronnie]: I like any places in game that are very green and full of plants or trees, and most of the areas by* the water.
[Jason]: Pantheon of the Ancients What is your favorite thing about that game?
[James]: The ability to explore.* I’m a big fan of games where you can go places, see things, then find lore in the game to tell you what happened there.* After 18 months as a GM and being able to go just about everywhere, I’m still constantly finding new and strange places that I’ve never found before.* “Hey guys, check this place out…” is not unheard of in my are
[Ronnie]: I think the best part of our game is definitely the sceneries you encounter throughout the zones. Also, the ability to create an array of characters that play completely different from each other in game or groups.
[Jason]: *Attractive graphics and friendly community If you could be any fictional character, whom would you be?
[James]: Buckaroo Banzai.* He’s a rockstar, physicist, a world-renowned neurosurgeon, and at the front line of fending off the Red Lectroids from invading our dimension.* Doesn’t get much better than that.
[Ronnie]: I’d would have to be Aladdin so I could mob everywhere on a magic carpet and have a hot girlfriend named Jasmine lol.
[Jason]: Don Giovanni What was the last book you read?
[James]: I am a*huge reader, and have accumulated a fair library of stuff.* I’ve recently been going back and re-reading some of the items in my library. Currently I’m working through Song of Fire & Ice series by George R.R. Martin.
[Ronnie]: Last book I honestly don’t remember the title, but was about an orphan girl who hated school but loved art, and used it to cope with problems.
[Jason]: *Music with the Brain in Mind. By Eric Jenson How did you get into the industry?
[James]: Right place, right time, and a long time interest in MMO design and worldbuilding.
[Ronnie]: *I got into the industry by word of mouth, and happened to be interviewed by Sharon Morris, and just had to work here after meeting her.
[Jason]: Luck mostly. I have always been an avid gamer and have always worked in customer service fields. Like peanut butter and chocolate. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
[James]: Teleportation.* Never be late again, and I’ll never have to worry about having enough leg room in coach class.
[Ronnie]: Would have to be like Mystique from X-men who can change shapes and morph into other people
[Jason]: Time travel Outside of work, what do you like to do?
[James]: I’ve got a couple Pen and Paper RPG campaigns going with some friends.* Other than that, video games, and wilderness stuff (camping, hiking, hanging out and soaking up the ambience).* Photography, especially around some of*San Diego’s coastal and canyon nature areas is high up on the list for me.
[Ronnie]: I just like lounging or just going to OB. Makin music, dancing, cooking. I also enjoy brief walks on the beach, cause long ones are exhausting.
