SOE hosted a total of 10 art interns across our studios this summer.* In addition to the GI.R.L. scholarship recipients (see part 1 (http://stationblog.wordpress.com/2010/08/31/summer-art-internships-part-1/)), students came from Brigham Young University (http://animation.byu.edu/frontpage), The*Art Institute of California-San Diego (http://www.artinstitutes.edu/san-diego/), Laguna College of Art and Design (http://www.lagunacollege.edu/), The Art Institute of Colorado (http://www.artinstitutes.edu/denver/), The Art institute of Phoenix (http://www.artinstitutes.edu/phoenix/), and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (http://www.iupui.edu).
The Art institute students from San Diego came directly from our SOE Mentor program where we mentor regular game prototype classes that are based on SOE game titles. Each student is assigned a mentor and over the 10 week summer internship they get a taste of what it’s like to work as an artist in the game industry.* Our internships are also designed to give students the opportunity to create actual assets used in our games to build their experience and portfolios.* They worked on a variety of assignments including: character and environment art, props, concept illustrations, UI elements, and animation.
They are returning to their schools next semester with real industry experience under their belt and SOE was introduced to some promising new talent!* Our internships are posted each spring on our careers page which can be accessed via SOE Art Portal (http://corporate.station.sony.com/artists/) – click the ‘Work at SOE!’ link.* We wish the best of luck and success to all our interns as they complete their academic programs and hope to see many of them at SOE in the future.
