Fireflyte was discussing item stats with some people who brought up Crit Mitigation possibly being added to VP set gear pieces. Fireflyte said there will be no changes being made to the VP gear but the VP gear is a base for what will be required to withstand the damage output by TSO raid encounters not to mention the dps necessary to kill the encounters.

Several guilds and pick-up raids have now experienced that most encounters are quite harder using the Legendary Void Shard gear than using the VP gear. Reasons being is that the VP gear already enhances both hitpoints and status effects much better than the current Legendary gear which seems to be mainly set towards grouping. The legendary set gear will still be useful in TSO raid zones however many guilds will notice the much higher base damage due to the fact the legendary gear will not mitigate the damage as effectively as the Fabled gear will.

So what does this mean? Basically from raiding on Beta as it is now and if it remains the same, guilds will still need near full sets of VP gear to take the damage output from TSO raid encounters. Legendary will help but a raid in the legendary sets will notice higher base damage taken from all attacks from the encounters.

So for those who thought you were going to be replacing your gear right away from quested loot can breathe a little softer now. The VP set pieces will get you into raiding the first 2 tiers of TSO faster than questing for those Legendary pieces. The quested jewelry however seems to be the most important for some classes rather than the armor.

Now, lets see if it stays the same as launch approaches.

EQ2zone will keep an eye on any changes made to the damage mechanics as it gets closer to the TSO release.
